I recently delved into SSON's State of the Shared Services & Outsourcing Industry Global Market Report 2024, and one particular insight stood out. The report highlights an impressive 42 services and functions now supported by Shared Services Organizations (SSO) and Global Business Services (GBS), with 40% of respondents including Data Analytics and Business Analytics in their scope.
This sparked an intriguing thought: Why not expand this scope to include Value Realization / Management?
Traditionally, Value Realization has been the domain of the Transformation Management Office, where its focus on aligning strategic initiatives with measurable outcomes makes perfect sense. However, pairing it with Data Analytics and Business Analytics within the SSO/GBS framework seems like a natural evolution. After all, the same data-driven insights and analytics capabilities that power business intelligence could also be leveraged to measure, optimize, and communicate value realization.
Additionally, there’s a growing trend of companies integrating in-house consulting and advisory services into their SSO/GBS models. This shift positions SSO/GBS as more than a transactional hub—it becomes a strategic driver of organizational value. Incorporating Value Realization into this framework could amplify its impact, ensuring initiatives are not only delivered efficiently but also evaluated and optimized for maximum business value.
As SSOs and GBSs continue to evolve, this may be an idea worth exploring. Could this be the next big step in maximizing the strategic potential of shared services? Food for thought!
